The Fieldwork experience

Making a Difference

CASE graduates complete a minimum of 70 hours of fieldwork in local after-school programs. Since 2013, over 500 undergraduates have provided mentorship, tutoring, small group activities and staff support to local K-12 programs.

Sample activities that sites may ask you to engage in include:

  • Helping students think through homework problems
  • Supporting day to day operational activities (e.g. taking attendance, distributing name tags, setting up projects, etc.)
  • Observing classroom management (e.g. implementation of classroom management strategies/incentives)
  • Supporting the delivery and/or prep for physical fitness activities
  • Conducting short enrichment activities already planned by the site (science, reading, writing, math, art, character development, etc.)
  • Observing staff delivering a lesson plan
