Frequently asked questions (FAQS)

  • Who can obtain a CASE Certificate? Any undergraduate student at UC Irvine can pursue the CASE certificate, regardless of their major. 
  • What are the requirements for the CASE certificate? You can view the CASE certificate requirements under the Coursework tab of the CASE website. 
  • Can I complete the 70-hour fieldwork requirement independently? No, fieldwork hours for the CASE certificate must be completed with EDUC 160 (20 hours) and EDUC 191 (50 hours). For more information on the CASE certificate fieldwork requirement or sites, please click here.
  • When will I receive my certificate? Students must submit a Case Certificate Application here by Friday of Week 1 of Spring quarter. Certificates are issued annually after Spring grades are posted. 
  • Can fieldwork for the CASE certificate also fulfill major fieldwork? Yes, fieldwork hours from EDUC 160 and 191 may be applied towards the practicum requirement for the education sciences major. 
  • What type of opportunities are available with this certificate? It’s a great steppingstone for teaching careers. It also opens after-school and summer opportunities for current undergraduates.
